The city of Burgos was founded in 884. On the banks of the Arlazón River stands the historic city of Cabeza de Castilla. Its geographical location makes it a major commercial and artistic center. Its cathedral, a World Heritage Site, is one of the monuments that lends character and charisma to the city. The universally recognized Way of St. James runs through its streets, making it one of the most important along its route. And a few kilometers from the city lies Atapuerca, the birthplace of the first Europeans.
The "City of Burgos" International Folklore Festival transforms the Burgos summer into an attractive meeting point for world cultures. It takes place during the month of July outdoors in the Plaza de San Juan.
For five days, Burgos becomes the universal center of peace, tolerance, diversity, integration, and culture. Parades and processions through squares and streets, folklore entertainment, craft markets, exhibitions, dance workshops, music recitals, and performances and concerts by participating groups make the festival an annual must-attend event. International, national, and local groups participate.
