OFFICIAL GREETING
CHAIRWOMAN OF THE
FOLKLORE COMMITTEE
CITY OF BURGOS

Ana Regina Peñacoba

Chairwoman, Burgos Folklore Committee

Citizens of Burgos, visitors, and lovers of culture:

It is my privilege, as President of the Folklore Committee, to welcome you to this 47th edition of the International Folklore Festival “City of Burgos”—an essential date in the cultural calendar of our city. For five vibrant days, from July 15 to 19, Burgos will become a true crossroads of peoples, memories, and rhythms from around the world.

This festival is not only a showcase of traditional music and dance; above all, it is an act of recognition and respect for the diversity of peoples and their cultural heritage. This year’s participation of groups from Mexico, Senegal, Singapore, New Zealand, Serbia, Valencia, and the city and province of Burgos offers a living, plural mosaic that invites us to look at the world with curiosity, openness, and gratitude.

At a time when differences too often become borders, folklore—an expression deeply rooted in collective identity—reminds us that dialogue between cultures is not only possible but necessary. Each dance, each melody, each traditional costume parading through our streets and on our stages carries centuries of history, symbols, and community. And by sharing them, they are renewed.

I invite everyone to take part not only as spectators but as active hosts of this celebration. May the workshops, street parades, and evening concerts be not only festive moments but also spaces of encounter, discovery, and shared reflection.

I am grateful to the City Council of Burgos, to the collaborating companies, to the tireless volunteers, and of course to the participating groups, for their dedication and enthusiasm. Thanks to them—and to you, the audience who give meaning to this festival—this event continues to be a national and international reference in the field of folklore.

May these days help us look at one another with the joy of recognizing ourselves in what is different.

Let the music play, let the dances speak, and may Burgos continue to be a bridge between cultures!
