OFFICIAL GREETING
MAYORESS

Cristina Ayala Santamaría

Mayoress of Burgos

The streets of our city are once again filled with music, color, dance, and life on the occasion of one of the most beloved and eagerly awaited cultural events of the calendar: the International Folklore Festival “City of Burgos,” which this year celebrates its 47th edition.

For five vibrant days, from July 15 to 19, Burgos will become a meeting point for cultures from around the world, welcoming 545 participants from five continents to its squares, streets, and stages. From Senegal, Serbia, New Zealand, Singapore, or Mexico, to Valencia and, of course, Burgos itself—represented by ten local groups—the 17 participating ensembles will offer us a true mosaic of traditions and artistic expressions.

The main stage will once again be the iconic Plaza de San Juan, the heart of the festival, though the program will also unfold in other notable spaces such as the Teatro Principal, the Bandstand at Paseo del Espolón, and various streets of the historic center. Alongside participatory workshops, concerts, parades, and performances, the traditional Festival Bazaar will also return, offering a chance to discover crafts and souvenirs from the participating countries.

This festival, which has earned well-deserved recognition on the international scene, would not be possible without the commitment and dedication of the Folklore Committee of the City of Burgos, responsible for its artistic direction and coordination, as well as the team of the Municipal Office of Culture and Tourism, which promotes it with strong institutional support. My sincere gratitude also goes to the 70 volunteers, whose enthusiasm and dedication contribute in an essential way to the success of the event.

The people of Burgos have shown, year after year, their affection for this festival, filling every performance and becoming knowledgeable, sensitive, and devoted spectators. Their participation is key to consolidating Burgos as a benchmark in the promotion of folklore and respect for cultural diversity.

I am convinced that this 47th edition will once again be unforgettable. Therefore, I encourage the people of Burgos and visitors alike to enjoy a program designed for all audiences, where tradition and cultural exchange come together to offer us a unique journey through the soul of nations.

Welcome to the International Folklore Festival “City of Burgos”!
